Shrimper 19 Open Championship at Mylor Yacht Club

The 2024 event marked the largest turnout ever for the Shrimper Class Open Championship, with sailors and boats traveling from across the country to participate alongside the local fleet in Falmouth, Cornwall for a comprehensive race series.

This championship was strategically scheduled to align closely with the annual Falmouth Sailing Week regatta, making it convenient for visiting Shrimper sailors to launch their boats while enjoying holiday opportunities around the stunning Falmouth estuary and coastline. Over the three-day competition, a diverse range of wind conditions and racing course styles, expertly managed by the Mylor Yacht Club race team, provided challenging and exciting racing for all participants.

After completing six races, the championship results revealed a nail-biting finish, with just one point separating the top two boats. Local champion “Jackdaw,” helmed by Stuart Sly, took the win, closely followed by the visiting Shrimper “Tarragon,” navigated by Mike Lyons from Oxford, who finished in second place. Noteworthy prize winners included Alan Mills for the first single-handed entry, Hatti Smart as the first Lady Helm, Clive Henderson who won The Windsport Trophy, and Mike Everett, who earned the Endurance prize.

The dates for the 2025 Shrimper Open Championships are already confirmed for the 29th, 30th, and 31st of August 2025. We are excitedly anticipating even more visiting boats and local Shrimper sailing teams for next year’s event, which promises a delightful combination of on-water racing and friendly evening socials.
