The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) organized two race courses for the sailing event. One course was for a coastal race of around 27 miles, taking the fleet around the islands of La Maddalena and Caprera. The other course was for windward-leeward races for the yachts competing in the Rolex IMA Maxi 1 World Championship and the Maxi 2 class. The Race Committee plans to set a coastal course for all classes on September 12th, with the first start at 11 a.m. CEST. However, there may be strong gusts of wind exceeding 30 knots due to the Mistral weather conditions.
