2024 ORC World Championship Long Offshore Race Results Are In

First results are in for the Long Offshore Race at the 2024 ORC World Championship. The race took place from September 27 to October 5, 2024, at the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court.

After 23 to 30 hours of racing on courses ranging from 157 to 203 miles, the fleet has finished, and the results are in. The first boat to cross the finish line in Class A was Austin and Gwen Fragomen’s Botin 44 Interlodge IV.

The race saw challenging conditions, but teams persevered to complete the course. Complete results can be found on the ORC website.

The ORC World Championship, organized by the Offshore Racing Congress, has been a global leader in providing fair racing for different boat types since 1969. The 2024 event was held in Newport, R.I., and sponsored by various partners.

In Class 0, Peter Askew’s Botin 52 Wizard was the first to finish, followed closely by other competitors. The race was intense, with key maneuvers and strategic decisions determining the outcome.

In Class B, Marcin Sutkowski’s GS 44 Wind Whisper 44 emerged victorious, showcasing their local knowledge and sailing skills. The race featured close finishes and challenging conditions.

The use of ORC’s Weather Routing Scoring added an innovative element to the race, ensuring fair results based on changing weather and currents. The method was well-received by participants and organizers.

The event also included the 2024 ORC North American Maxi Championship, with windward-leeward races and competitive sailing in various classes. The regatta will continue with more races and activities leading up to the awards ceremony on Saturday evening.
