With a “small but quality” fleet confirmed for the 2024 PIC Coastal Classic, the race is set to showcase some exciting competition. Key participants include the rebuilt Formula 40 racing trimaran, Fat Freddy, as well as the veteran ocean racers V5 and Wired, both aiming for top honors once again.
Different boat types will compete in the 119-nautical mile race from Auckland to the Bay of Islands, with multihulls favored in certain wind conditions while monohulls excel in others. Despite economic challenges and a date clash with the America’s Cup, a strong fleet is expected to participate in this iconic event.
Organized by the New Zealand Multihull Yacht Club, the race will kick off on October 25th, marking the unofficial start of the summer sailing season. Sponsored by reputable marine brands, the PIC Coastal Classic promises thrilling racing action and a celebration of New Zealand‘s maritime heritage.
Spectators are encouraged to witness the race start and finish from various vantage points along the course, with live updates available on the race website. Stay tuned for an exciting showcase of speed, tactics, and skill at this year’s PIC Coastal Classic.
