2024 RORC Vice Admiral’s Cup: A Glowing Success in Autumn Sunshine
The Royal Ocean Racing Club recently concluded its Solent racing season with the Vice Admiral’s Cup, featuring two days of exciting windward leeward and round the cans races. The weather was dominated by high pressure and early autumn sunshine, providing perfect conditions for the five races held in up to 15 knots of wind.
Racing was incredibly close, with tight competition in the Performance 40 and J/111 One Design Classes. Class winners included Ker 46 ROST Van Uden, Swan 45 Luna, J/111 Jitterbug, and J/109 Jeroboam. In the big boat IRC GP Zero Class, the Dutch team aboard Ker 46 ROST Van Uden claimed victory with five straight wins.
The event served as valuable preparation for ROST Van Uden’s participation in the 2025 Admiral’s Cup, with skipper Gerd-Jan Poortman leading the youth team. Other class winners included Tim Webb’s Swan 45 Luna in the Performance 40 Class, Stephen Davis’ Jeroboam in the J/109 Class, and Cornel Riklin’s Jitterbug in the J/111 Class.
The regatta was based at the RORC Cowes Clubhouse, providing a central hub for racing and social activities. Following the races, participants enjoyed a lively VAC Supper and Louis Vuitton Cup replays at the clubhouse.
