RS21 World Championship 2024 at L’Escala – Overall

After a final day of epic conditions in the Bay of Roses in L’Escala, Spain, the 2024 RS21 World Champions are crowned.

Italian team, Stenghele, helmed by Pietro Negri with crew Niccolo Bianchi, Giovanni Meloni, and Camilla Cordero di Montezemolo, takes gold with 59 points after 9 races. Despite a tie in third place with 63 points, the runner-up position goes to Fremito D’Arja of Dario Levi, Jas Farneti, Stefano Cherin, and Fausto Surini.

Defending World Championship team Caipirinha of Martin Reintjes, Francesco Rubagotti, Daniele Cassinari, and Giulio Desiderato completes an all-Italian podium, a nationality that dominated the race.

In the Corinthian category, Lithuanian team Storm of Raimondas Siugzdinis, Klaudio Kliucinskas, Egle Kivisikk, and Andrius Ramonaitis take gold. Silver goes to ITA 238 formed by Riccardo Benvenuto, Riccardo Vincenzi, Duccio Abolaffio, and Diego Larcher. Bronze goes to Italian team Nox Oceani 285 owned by Andrea Nocella, who sailed with a crew made up of Andrea de Matteis at the helm, Riccardo Serra, Matteo Paulon, Tito Morbiducci, and Giorgio Nocella.

It’s been an action-packed week at Club Nàutic L’Escala. The prize-giving ceremony in regatta Village bought the event to a close on Saturday 28th September.

With the lowering of the class flag, the RS21 World Championship, which brought together 164 RS21 sailors from 10 countries and two continents, said goodbye. The conditions have been tough and variable. Sailors experienced first-hand the champagne-sailing thermal winds typical of L’Escala on the first day, with wind speeds and gusts increasing with westerly and northerly winds of the last few days.

The regatta has been very competitive. There were several changes at the top of the leaderboard throughout the week, with very tight differences in points. A sign, without a doubt, of the excitement of one-design racing and the high level of competitiveness within the class.

Relive the experience and witness the action on the RS21 Facebook and Instagram pages.
