The sun finally came out on day five of the International Six Metre European Championships 2024 Trofeo Xacobeo. Races six and seven of the eight-race series were completed for both the Open and Classic Divisions, with a single scoring discard coming into play.

In the Open Division, there were changes on the leaderboards as new faces emerged. Henrik Andersin’s Oiva took the lead with Jeremy Thorp’s Battlecry in second and Rainer Muller’s Junior in third. Defending champion Dieter Schoen’s Momo found form again and sits in fourth overall. Violeta Alvarez’s Stella dropped to fifth, while Nick and Fotis Lykiardopolou’s Aera had a strong performance.

In the Classic Division, His Majesty King Juan Carlos’ Bribon remained in the lead despite a mixed day of racing. Ossi Paija’s Astree II is close behind in second, followed by Mauricio Sanchez-Bella Carswell’s Titia in third. Francisco Botas’ Aida had a standout performance, winning both races and moving into fourth overall.

With one race left to complete on the final day, the rankings in both Divisions are still wide open. The forecast for the last day is challenging, but both the Race Committee and sailors are prepared for the final showdown.
