49er FX and 49er UK National Championship 2024 at Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy
The 49er FX and 49er UK National Championship 2024 will be held at the Weymouth & Portland National sailing Academy from 26-29 September 2024. The event marks a resurgence in the domestic 49er FX and 49er fleet, hosting the first National Championships in several years. The event saw fifteen FX teams and thirteen 49er teams competing, including teams from Ireland and the USA.
Despite challenging weather conditions, racing commenced with Ellie Keers and Jess Jobson dominating the FX fleet, while Will Pank and Tommie Grit showed strong performance in the 49er fleet. Race results fluctuated across the days, with intense competition among the top contenders.
Ultimately, Ellie and Jess claimed the overall victory in the FX fleet, while Fin Armstrong and Ewan Gribbin emerged as the winners in the 49er fleet. The event also marked the re-establishment of the Class Association, with plans for continued growth in the fleet. The event sponsors, including Allen, Ovington Boats, and Marlow Ropes, provided generous support to the participants.
Looking ahead, plans for the 2025 event are already in place, with a focus on further developing the circuit and increasing participation. The event showcased the talent and competitive spirit within the 49er FX and 49er fleets, setting the stage for future success.
