54th International Knarr Championships at St. Francis Yacht Club

The 54th International Knarr Championships recently took place at St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, California, with Jens Christensen and his team from Denmark emerging as the victors. Christensen’s consistent performance secured him the title, with two firsts and three seconds over 10 races. The competition was fierce, with Randy Hecht from the USA and Don Jesberg also putting up strong performances.

The regatta, held from August 31 to September 7, saw 25 teams from the United States, Denmark, and Norway compete using the host country’s fleet. Boat assignments were made by draw, adding an element of unpredictability to the races.

Christensen, a Danish Olympian, expressed his joy at winning his second IKC title, praising the week-long event and the competitive spirit among the sailors. Hecht, sailing with Russ Silvestri, reflected on their performance and the challenging conditions they faced on the final day.

Jesberg, competing in his third IKC, appreciated the close racing and camaraderie among the sailors. The regatta’s success was also attributed to the strong San Francisco Knarr fleet and the excellent Race Committee.

In addition to the thrilling on-water action, a busy social schedule kept participants engaged throughout the event. This year’s regatta paid tribute to Knud Wibroe and other past sailors, adding a sentimental touch to the competition.

Overall, the 54th International Knarr Championships at St. Francis Yacht Club was a resounding success, blending competitive sailing with social gatherings and memorable moments for all involved.
