2024 IW Youth and Junior Championship Series at Gurnard Sailing Club
On Saturday 7th September, Gurnard Sailing Club hosted the first leg of the 2024 IW Youth and Junior Championship Series, featuring 43 competitors across various fleets including ILCA 6, ILCA 4, RS Feva, RS Tera Pro, RS Tera Sport, and RS Tera Regatta.
The day’s conditions presented challenges with a light easterly wind that gradually decreased and shifted to the south as rain arrived. During Race 1, several sailors faced confusion regarding the course layout, resulting in only a few completing the course correctly. However, Race 2 saw an improvement with close competition in all fleets.
A short “1 lap” Race 3 was followed by a race against time to complete Race 4 before the wind completely died and the fleets moved westward on the ebbing tide.
