Louis Vuitton Cup Day 9: Luna Rossa finishes Round Robins in second place
The final day of the Louis Vuitton Cup Round Robins concluded with Luna Rossa facing setbacks. A malfunction during the pre-start caused the team to miss their first match against Alinghi and lose the sail-off against INEOS Britannia.
Despite these challenges, Luna Rossa secured the second spot in the rankings, trailing behind team GBR. The competition saw marginal conditions for the AC75s, with light breeze and residual swell on the course. Orient Express Racing Team was the first challenger to be eliminated.
In the match against Switzerland, Luna Rossa faced disqualification due to a foil issue, resulting in a win for SUI. In the following match against GBR, Luna Rossa struggled to catch up after INEOS Britannia took the lead early on.
The crew of Luna Rossa, led by Jimmy Spithill and Francesco Bruni, gave their best effort in challenging conditions. The team featured Umberto Molineris, Andrea Tesei, Bruno Rosetti, Cesare Gabbia, Nicholas Brezzi, and Emanuele Liuzzi.
