The 19th Palermo-Montecarlo offshore sailing regatta, organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia, is part of the America’s Cup campaign with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team, in collaboration with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and the Yacht Club de Monaco.
- Black Jack 100 crossed the finish line at 08:24, setting a new record of 44 hours, 34 minutes, and 14 seconds.
- Lucky secured second place at 09:18, also finishing under the old record and is the provisional overall leader.
- Balthasar is expected to arrive in the afternoon, followed by a night of additional arrivals.
The 30-meter maxi yacht Black Jack 100, owned by Remon Vos and skippered by Tristan Le Brun, made a stunning finish in front of Monte Carlo. This victory not only earned Black Jack 100 the Line Honours and the Giuseppe Tasca D’Almerita Trophy but also set a new race record, besting the previous record held by the same boat when it was named Esimit Europa 2 by over three hours.
Immediately after finishing, the crew celebrated with a toast of Tasca D’Almerita brut. Remon Vos expressed his excitement about the win, saying, “My first race, splendid conditions, a victory with a record: what more could I wish for! It was a beautiful and exciting race, especially the duel with Lucky and the moments along the route.”
Lucky, a 27-meter American yacht, owned by Brion Erharth and skippered by Stuart Wilson, crossed the finish line at 09:18, just 45 minutes after Black Jack. The crew celebrated their achievements on the dock, and Lucky also secured the lead in compensated time while awaiting the remaining boats.
The crucial moment in the race came at dawn when a wind change from South to North East benefitted Black Jack, allowing it to put distance between itself and Lucky.
Brion Erharth, the owner of Lucky, reflected on the race, stating, “We will not forget this race and the duel with Black Jack. Our sailors did an extraordinary job, and while lighter winds this morning held us back, we are still very satisfied.”
