J/70s Shine in Prestigious UK Regattas: Royal Thames Yacht Club Annual Regatta, Grand Slam Series, and RORC Vice Admiral’s Cup



Royal Thames Yacht Club and RORC recently hosted the J/70 and Cape 31 fleets at their Annual Regatta & Vice Admirals Cup on the Solent’s Hill Head plateau on 7-8 September 2024. The event also served as the fifth leg of the UK J/70 Grand Slam series supported by Rooster. Despite light winds on Saturday morning, the 17-boat fleet managed to complete three races in moderate conditions on Sunday. The racing was closely contested, with Jelvis emerging victorious on countback from DSP, followed by Cosmic, Jeepster, and Powerhouse. Full results can be found below:

3rd – Cosmic (Patrick Liarder) – RSYC – 11pts
4th – Jeepster (Max Clapp) – RSYC – 13pts
5th – Powerhouse (Bertie Fisher) – RSYC – 14pts
6th – Offbeat (David McLeman) – RSYC – 20pts
7th – Joskin (Henry Edwards) – Pwllheli SC – 24pts
8th – Powder Monkey (Ian Poynton) – RSYC – 25pts
9th – EV Experts (Tim Collins) – RORC – 27pts
10th – Elizabeth (Jemima Lawson) – RTYC – 28pts

The racing was intense, with Jelvis, DSP, and Cosmic fighting hard for the top positions. Overall, it was a thrilling weekend of competition on the water.
