Tom Dolan of Ireland Wins 55th La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec Overall for Smurfit Kappa-Kingspan

Ireland’s Tom Dolan has emerged as the overall winner of the 55th La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec after finishing in seventh place on the final stage. This annual multi-stage solo offshore race is renowned as one of the toughest events in solo offshore sailing.

Dolan, sailing on Smurfit Kappa-Kingspan, secured the victory with a winning margin of 25 minutes and 38 seconds over French rival Lois Berrehar. This achievement marks Dolan as the first non-French skipper to win the race since 1988.

The Irish skipper’s success can be attributed to his strategic prowess and mental strength, with a carefully planned move in light winds proving crucial in securing a lead on the second stage. Dolan’s commitment to his psychological game, alongside support from his team and coaches, played a significant role in his triumph.

From his humble beginnings on a farm in County Meath, Dolan’s journey to the top of the La Solitaire du Figaro podium is a testament to his dedication and talent. His victory signifies years of hard work and sacrifices paying off, with Dolan expressing his desire to continue competing in the race.
