Leopard 3 Wins Inaugural Rolex IMA Maxi 1 World Championship



Leopard 3 emerged victorious at the inaugural Rolex IMA Maxi 1 World Championship during the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. The event, held from 8-14 September 2024, showcased thrilling racing in challenging conditions. The competition, organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in collaboration with the International Maxi Association, featured the best maxi yachts in the world.

Leopard 3, skippered by Joost Schuijff, claimed the top spot in the Rolex IMA Maxi 1 World Championship after a stunning performance. The Farr 100 yacht excelled in the final races, securing the championship title with a three-point lead. The team’s dedication and training paid off, with key upgrades and a strong crew contributing to their success.

In the Maxi 2 category, Proteus, owned by George and Christina Sakellaris, clinched victory in a closely contested race. The Sakellaris family’s persistence and expertise in handling the challenging conditions propelled them to the top of the leaderboard. Meanwhile, in the Supermaxi class, Svea, owned by Niklas Zennström and Filip Engelbert, showcased its dominance, securing a hard-fought win.

Oscar 3, helmed by Aldo and Elena Parisotto, celebrated its first victory in the Maxi 3 class after years of competitive racing. The team’s strategic maneuvers and flawless execution propelled them to the top of the podium. Additionally, Riccardo de Michele continued his winning streak in the Maxi 4 class, showcasing skill and determination in adverse conditions.

The Multihull class saw Gaetana, skippered by Riccardo Pavoncelli, emerge as the victor in a thrilling battle. The team’s cautious approach and adept crew handling resulted in a well-deserved victory. Overall, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup proved to be a thrilling and competitive event, setting the stage for the upcoming Mediterranean Maxi Inshore Challenge finale at Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez.
