Concord Pacific Racing Set for Milestone Debut at UniCredit Youth America’s Cup

Concord Pacific Racing is set to make history as Canada competes for the first time in the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup. The team, supported by lead sponsors Concord Green Energy, RBC, TELUS, and Dilawri, represents a significant milestone for Canadian sailing on the world stage. Under the leadership of Coach Kyle Martin and Captain Andrew Wood, Concord Pacific Racing has overcome challenges to reach this point, showcasing grit and determination in their journey.

Wood views this opportunity as a pivotal moment for the sport in Canada, expressing pride in representing the country at the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup. This event coincides with the introduction of the Puig Women’s America’s Cup, highlighting the growing ambitions of Canada on the global sailing scene.

Despite not having a dedicated AC40 boat, Concord Pacific Racing has utilized a high-tech simulator extensively to prepare for the competition. The team’s efforts have focused on maximizing every opportunity to improve and enhance teamwork and communication, essential for success in the high-performance, foiling monohull races.

The UniCredit Youth America’s Cup features both America’s Cup teams and Invited teams. Concord Pacific Racing represents Canada among other Invited teams, relying predominantly on simulator training due to limited access to boats. This unique challenge sets the stage for an exciting competition where the Invited teams have the chance to prove themselves against established competitors.

The confirmed Concord Pacific Racing Youth team for the 2024 UniCredit Youth America’s Cup includes Andrew Wood, Andre Van Dam, Jack Gogan, and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance. The team’s preparation has been supported by their Yacht Club of Record, the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, demonstrating a strong sense of community and national pride.

Racing begins on September 17 for the America’s Cup teams, with Concord Pacific Racing starting their campaign on September 18. Viewers can watch the action live on TSN, YouTube, or the America’s Cup website, where races will be streamed and showcase thrilling high-speed competition.

As Concord Pacific Racing approaches the final training session, the team remains focused on delivering their best performance. Despite facing teams with more on-water experience, Concord Pacific Racing is determined to embrace the challenge and showcase their skills and determination on the world stage. Fans across Canada are encouraged to follow the team’s journey and show their support as they aim to bring the trophy home.
