New York Yacht Club to Host Team Racing World Championship in 2025

The New York Yacht Club is set to host the World sailing 2025 Team Race World Championship from May 28 to June 1, 2025, at Harbour Court in Newport, R.I. This event will mark the return of team racing to the highest competitive level in the sport after a decade. The championship will feature a two-on-two format in the Club’s fleet of 23-foot Sonar keelboats. This format, although less common than the three-on-three format, has gained popularity for its straightforward scoring system and fast-paced action.

The New York Yacht Club has a strong history in keelboat team racing and has successfully hosted team racing events in the past. The Club’s regatta calendar for 2025 is already packed, with events such as the Hinman Masters regatta, the Morgan Cup, the New York Yacht Club Grandmasters, and the Women’s 2v2. The Club will also host the Global Team Race regatta in 2025.

Twelve teams are expected to participate in the championship, with one team representing the host New York Yacht Club. Additional teams will qualify through their member national authorities, with a qualifying regatta planned for early 2025. The Notice of Race for the 2025 Team Race World Championship can be found on the Club’s website. The next edition of the championship will take place in August 2026 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Teams interested in participating can review the eligibility requirements in the Notice of Race and submit a Request for Invitation through the provided link. This championship promises to be a thrilling showcase of team racing talent on the global stage.
