Streaker Southern Championship 2024 at Bartley sailing Club
This year’s Streaker Southern Championship took place at Bartley SC on September 29th. The event also marked the final race in the HD Sails Southern Paddle series. Despite a smaller turnout than expected, northerners dominated the top four positions.
The races were challenging due to the shifty southerly breeze, making navigation tricky. Sam McKay clinched the win in the first race, with Veronica Falat coming in second. In the second race, Sam maintained his lead, followed closely by Alan Bishop.
After two exciting races, Sam emerged as the clear winner of the event. However, the next four boats finished tied with 8 points each. Alan Bishop secured second place on count-back, with Steve Blackburn taking third.
In the HD Sails Southern Paddle series, Simon Gillow from Chipstead SC claimed the overall victory for 2024, followed by Veronica Falat in second place and Matt Whitfield in third.
The event also contributed to the Streaker Midland series, with Peter Gray from Staunton Harold SC emerging as the winner.
An important highlight of the prize-giving ceremony was the draw for the HD Sails prize sail, won this year by James Dawes. The sail will be redrawn at the End of Season Championships at Beaver SC on October 19th.
