Analyzing Racing Trends and Technical Updates: GBR IRC Committee

The GBR IRC Committee recently met to discuss racing trends and technical updates for the IRC rating system. Topics included offshore and two-handed racing popularity, challenges in inshore participation, rising costs, and ways to encourage greater involvement, especially among younger sailors.

Technical updates covered 2025 IRC rule changes and improvements to the IRC application portal. The committee also discussed maintaining clear sail limitations to prevent inventory advantages during events. Independent equipment inspection during events was emphasized for education purposes, with sail stamps and IRC Boat Data aiding in data verification against certificates.

The IRC Advocate Scheme and RYA YTC system were highlighted for their positive impact on developing IRC at local clubs and introducing new sailors to IRC racing. Looking ahead, the committee is focused on the 2025 calendar, including the IRC Nationals in Cowes to coincide with the RORC centenary celebrations.
