Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez Day 5: Competitive Sailing Event

Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez Day 5: Challenge Day

Time-honoured
At Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, Thursday is traditionally dedicated to Challenges, a playful nod to the origins of the Nioulargue. The Centenarian Trophy featured 19 classic yachts in a race with staggered starts. The Maxis also took to the water with renewed energy after a day off, adding to the exciting racing under the sunshine.

Meaningful Challenges
The Club 55 Paul Watson Cup saw Belle Aventure and Il Moro di Venezia I competing in a friendly battle. The Challenges in Paul Watson’s name aim to support the president of Sea Shepherd. A public auction will be held for the benefit of Watson.

Centenarians belying their years
The Gstaad Centenary Trophy brought together 19 traditional yachts for an exciting chase with staggered starts. Oriole emerged victorious, followed by Marga and Olympian in the P 14 class.

Role reversal among the Maxis
The Maxis had a change in classes with A and B racing coastal courses, and C and D engaging in windward-leewards. Lady First 3 and Six Jaguar showcased excellent performances in their respective classes.

The Grand Parade
Crews paraded around the old port in disguises, a tradition from the early competitions. The event was popular, with a jury awarding a prize from Domaine Bertaud Belieu to the winner.
