Champagne sailing conditions made for a perfect final day of the Burnham Week 2024 Bank Holiday Weekend.
On the Burnham Sailing Club start line, the dinghies were joined by the Phantoms for the last day of the Bank Holiday Weekend.
The Laser/ILCA fleet was decisively won by James Hutton-Penman, who secured two additional wins today. Duncan De Boltz finished second with 15 points, while Nathan Flynn from Royal Corinthian took third with 17 points.
Flynn and Niamh Davies, in a Merlin Rocket, triumphed in the Dinghy Fast Handicap Bank Holiday Regatta, achieving a fourth and a first place today. Juniors Noah Mathers and Rory Luddington in an RS Feva XL placed second, followed by Jo Tribe and Marcus Collingbourne in an RS200, who concluded the weekend in third.
Arthur Bullen continued his winning streak from yesterday, clinching two more firsts today to win the RS Tera’s weekend.
The Phantoms enjoyed a smoother sailing day from the BSC Start Line, with Richard Nurse emerging as the weekend winner, while Titch secured the runner-up position.
At the Pile House Start Line, competition intensified as various fleets aimed to conclude their races, particularly in the busy area between the Pinto and Redward marks.
With a first and a third in today’s races, Serious Moonlight, helmed by Richard Bavin, Joey Thompson, and Duncan Haley, won the RS Elite weekend and the Princess Caroline Bowl trophy, finishing just one point ahead of Blind Squirrel, captained by Bill Blank, Stuart Pinch, and Sharon Blank.
The Squibs, the largest fleet of the regatta with 25 competing boats, engaged in two closely fought races. Entering their final race, seven boats were tied for the top positions, with Budgies Tongue 105, steered by Jack Grogan and Gina Vince, emerging victorious for the David Eagling Memorial Trophy. They were followed by Ray Apthorp and Ian Simmons with Nemesis 806.
In the Sandhoppers’ ten-boat fleet, Susan and William Daly on Sand Star 159 claimed the Rice and Cole Sandhopper Salver, while Kevin Whittle and Matt Lis on Wild Gull 29 finished as runners-up.
Nick Wood’s Origami dominated the Multihulls weekend, earning the Sabin Cup for Saturday’s victory, the Brent Walker Bowl for Sunday’s win, and the Tolhurst Trophy for overall weekend success. Nigel Stevens’ Triassic secured the Lakedale Trophy as the runner-up.
The Cruiser Classes 1 & 2 experienced a simpler structure, with Cobra, skippered by Phil Collard and crewed by a skilled team, sweeping the weekend. Paul Trueman’s Exile took the runner-up position.
In the Class 5 cruisers, Richard Taylor’s Rondo won the local handicap with spinnaker among a fleet of nine boats, followed closely by the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club 707, helmed by Alex Hill and occasionally by his seven-year-old son, who also claimed the Sigma 33 Salver for their win on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Class 6, a local handicap with no spinnakers, was dominated by Lucy Lee, sailing with Ian Keam-George, Janice Keam-George, and Katie Keam-George, who achieved three wins, while Ningaloo, helmed by Mick Hill and his crew, finished as the runner-up.
The BWL Salver Inter Club Team Trophy was awarded to Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, represented by Lucy Lee and the RCYC’s 707.
The Dragons had a tightly contested weekend, with the top three boats separated by just one point. Avalanche 722, crewed by Mark Wade, Amanda Wade, and Nigel Cole, claimed the Solent Points Trophy, with Beauty and the Beast 746 taking second.
In the Ospreys, Roger and James Blake claimed victory in the final two races of the Bank Holiday Weekend for the Osprey Trophy, with Robert Shaw and Ian Little finishing as runners-up.
In the Royal Corinthian One Design’s last race of the weekend, Clive and Graeme Page, assisted by Paul Stratton on Corpo Santo, won the race, but it was not enough to surpass Cormorant, helmed by Justin Waples, Steve Rands, and Vicky Brookes, who finished the weekend as winners of the Silver Tankard, with Corpo Santo as the runners-up.
The Royal Burnham One Design’s final day of the Bank Holiday Weekend saw Red Jacket, captained by Stephen Herring and his crew, win the Wylie Patterson Cup on countback against Aquamarine, helmed by Angela Shephard.
The East Coast One Design regatta crowned Rhythm, representing the ECOD Association and sailing with Dan Halley, Duncan McLaren, and Dave Halley, as the winners of the ECOD Whitsun Goblet, while Delphine, crewed by Beccs Polden and Charlie Moore, took second place.
With more than 70 races completed, 162 boats entered, ten female helms, first-time sailors claiming victories in their classes, a seven-year-old helm as a trophy winner, a memorable pirate attack, and three seasons of competition over three days, this summarises the Burnham Week 2024 Bank Holiday Weekend.
