The Firefly Vines Series Open took place at West Oxfordshire sailing Club on the weekend of 19th and 20th October 2024. The event saw challenging conditions over the two days of racing, with varying winds and competitive fleet racing.
Day 1 had ideal sailing weather with sunshine and light to moderate winds, allowing for five races to be completed. Jono Pank and Jo Mason on F4400 Swaggle dominated the day with five wins. The evening saw the sailors enjoying WOSC hospitality and socializing after a day of intense racing.
Day 2 brought a change in weather with rain and strong winds, providing a different racing experience for the sailors. Sprint races were held with a windward/leeward course layout, adding excitement to the competition. Despite the challenging conditions, the fleet enjoyed the fast-paced racing and camaraderie.
In the end, Jono Pank and Jo Mason claimed the overall event win in their Ovington build F4400 Swaggle. James Nicholls and Bea Burrows secured second place, followed by James Ball and Tristan in third. The event showcased the competitive spirit of Firefly sailors and the camaraderie within the fleet.
