Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli has once again demonstrated its formidable prowess by winning both of its matches in Day 3 of the Louis Vuitton Cup. The team secured two crucial points against American Magic and INEOS Britannia, showcasing the impressive capabilities of their boat and crew in varying weather conditions.
With five matches scheduled, including a postponed race between USA and ITA due to calm winds, the third day of the Round Robins was an exhilarating experience for both the teams and the race committee. An easterly wind of about 8 knots allowed all races to proceed, providing a spectacular show for the numerous spectator boats on the water. Luna Rossa executed two flawless performances, even with over two hours of waiting time between races.
Trimmer Umberto Molineris emphasized the importance of patience in sailing, stating, "Anyone who comes from the Olympic Classes knows that you need to have a lot of patience in this sport. It’s important not to lose concentration during breaks; you need to know when to press the off button to rest and when to turn it back on and be ready and sharp to start racing again."
Enrico Voltolini, a seasoned sailor and cyclor aboard Luna Rossa, echoed this sentiment. "Waiting is exhausting, especially when it’s hot and you must take long breaks between races, but we’re used to it. Physically, as cyclors, we must always be able to give our best. That’s why, in addition to the routine warm-up before boarding, we have another one during a break, before starting the next race."

Fans were treated to an exhilarating match race between Luna Rossa and NYYC American Magic, which remained competitive until the finish. The Italian crew claimed victory by a mere 24 seconds, thanks to a bold start and strategic tactics. Even when faced with a windward foil issue that cost them precious seconds, they stayed engaged with their opponents, ultimately taking control at gate 3.

MATCH #11 – GBR vs ITA
The conditions in this match were lighter and more challenging. However, Luna Rossa adapted seamlessly. They executed a tactical start, edging ahead after the first cross and maintaining a growing lead throughout the race. The crew’s dedication to keeping their AC75 on foils paid off, as they crossed the finish line with a remarkable lead of over 1 minute.
