Lightning Fails to Hinder Luna Rossa’s Victory Over Emirates Team New Zealand

Luna Rossa Triumphs Over Emirates Team New Zealand in Louis Vuitton Cup Day 5

Another impressive victory for Luna Rossa, as they faced off against the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand, in the Louis Vuitton Cup Round Robins.

The day brought turbulent weather conditions to Barcelona, characterized by lightning and rain that delayed the start of matches. Despite these challenges, Luna Rossa demonstrated resilience and skill on the unpredictable racecourse.

MATCH #17 – New Zealand vs Italy

The race commenced slightly behind schedule due to a necessary course realignment from the Race Committee. From the outset, Luna Rossa showcased their dominance, starting strong and maintaining control over the Kiwis, who struggled to stay on their foils. Luna Rossa swiftly took the lead, rounding the first gate with a 16-second advantage.

Throughout the race, Luna Rossa balanced their lead while keeping a close watch on their opponents amid fluctuating wind conditions. As they approached the finish line, Emirates Team New Zealand was disqualified for crossing the boundary of over 100 meters, solidifying Luna Rossa’s win.

Winner: Italy (ITA)

Today’s Luna Rossa crew included helmsmen Jimmy Spithill and Francesco Bruni, along with trimmers Umberto Molineris and Andrea Tesei. The team of cyclors consisted of Enrico Voltolini, Bruno Rosetti, Cesare Gabbia, and Emanuele Liuzzi.
