In 2023, the Ceilidh Cup featured seven competing teams, with Strathclyde University Sailing Club winning both the overall title and the SSS championship.

As the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club celebrates its bicentenary in 2024, it looks forward to welcoming teams from across Scotland and beyond. Event Coordinator Eilidh Millar highlighted the club’s fleet of Sonars, which are ideal for competitive match racing, creating an even playing field in various weather conditions.

The race area at East Patch, located just off Helensburgh at the top of the Firth of Clyde, provides excellent winds and spectacular scenery, making it a perfect location for this exciting event.

“For university teams, this is the first event on the student sailing calendar, offering a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and revive past rivalries,” Millar stated. Both novice and experienced teams are invited to participate, as the event has traditionally served as an introduction to match racing for many university students.

Additionally, the club and Scottish Student Sailing plan to offer optional training on the Friday before the event, which will cover boat handling and sailing rules.
