A Wild Ride Sweeps Competition at J/35 North American Championship

A Wild Ride dominated the J/35 North American Championship at the North Star Sail Club in Detroit, MI. The event took place from September 5-8, 2024, with twelve teams from across the Great Lakes participating. The sailing conditions ranged from 12 to 27 knots over three days of racing.

Bill Wildner’s MR BILL’S WILD RIDE emerged as the 2024 J/35 North American Champion, overcoming a lackluster start on the first day. After a strong comeback performance, the “wild ride” crew secured victory with a remarkable 23 points net. Mike Welch’s FALCON claimed the silver medal, while Dean Fitzpatrick and Gary Snider’s HONOR ROLL took home the bronze.

Sheri Dufresne’s FIREFLY showed promise early on but fell short of the podium, finishing in fourth place. The J/35 class celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024, highlighting the enduring success and competitiveness of Rod Johnstone’s design with over 320 hulls built worldwide.
