Flying Fifteen Open at Broxbourne sailing Club

An excellent turnout of nineteen boats from the home club and one visitor enjoyed the open weekend of sailing at Broxbourne sailing Club. This event marked the last open meeting of the Flying Fifteen Southern Travellers series.

Conditions were challenging with light winds forecast for both days. Despite the wide range of boat ages and sailing abilities in the club fleet, there was close racing throughout. The first race saw Pip and Alice Hudson (FF3889) take a commanding lead, followed by Mason King and Mark Wyllie (FF3559) in second.

Race 2 provided more wind and close competition, with Brian Turner and Jackie Burns (FF3707) emerging as contenders. Visitors Neil Bartholomey and Gary Livingstone (FF3873) also showed strong performance. Pip and Alice Hudson (FF3889) ultimately secured their second win.

After a break for lunch, race 3 commenced with Bob Meacham and Ian Fleming (FF3630) joining the leading pack. Once again, the Hudsons dominated the race and clinched another victory.

The final day of racing brought mixed conditions, with Race 4 proving to be challenging in patchy winds. Pip and Alice Hudson (FF3889) and Richard Anthony and crew (FF3715) battled for the lead, with FF3715 taking the win.

In Race 5, FF3889 emerged victorious once again, followed by FF3715 and Bob Tait crewed by Melvyn (FF4051). Despite the inconsistent winds, the competition was fierce and enjoyable for all participants.

Overall, Pip and Alice Hudson emerged as the winners of the 2024 Broxbourne Flying Fifteen open meeting.
