Challenger open meeting at Ogston Sailing Club – 7-8 September 2024
Usually the Challenger Open at Ogston SC is part of their general handicap event. However, this year the dates didn’t work and Dave Driffill generously organised a special Challenger Open for us.
There were ten Challengers including seven visiting sailors, four of whom were kindly loaned Ogston Challengers. The conditions were challenging with flukey winds, making the races difficult and frustrating for the sailors.
Race 1 saw Val Millward taking the win, followed by Dave Driffill and Bex Foulsham. Despite some setbacks, the fleet enjoyed excellent racing and a delicious lunch back on shore.
In Race 2, an incident at the windward mark shook things up, with Graham Hall ultimately securing the victory. Race 3 showcased some impressive sailing with Graham coming out on top once again.
The event concluded with Graham Hall narrowly clinching the win on countback, followed by Val Millward and Dave Driffill. Stephen Thomas Bate led the silver fleet, with Chris Keats-Hannan and Caz Jerromes rounding out the top three.
Overall, it was a successful event thanks to the efforts of Ogston SC, the race officer, safety crews, and everyone involved in making it happen. Special thanks to Dave Driffill for organizing the event.
