Charlie Dalin Wins the Défi Azimut 48 Hours

Charlie Dalin claimed victory in the Azimut 48 Hours race, crossing the finish line first with his boat MACIF Santé Prévoyance. He completed the 455-mile course in 1 day 18 hours, 14 minutes at an average speed of 10.75 knots, covering a total distance of 596.77 miles at an average speed of 14.13 knots.

After previous wins in 2021 and 2022, this marks Dalin’s third victory in the Défi Azimut Lorient-Agglomération, and his second solo win. His performance showcased skill in the upwind section of the challenging course, requiring speed on all points of sail.

Starting strongly, MACIF Santé Prévoyance excelled in the downwind run, making up ground after a slight error in positioning at the first waypoint. Dalin’s speed enabled him to catch up and take the lead on the way to waypoint 3, ultimately leading the fleet.

Maintaining a commanding lead, Dalin was only closely challenged by Charal, who eventually finished second. Dalin’s strategic sailing and boat design allowed him to extend his lead and secure a confident victory.

The race marks a promising start for Dalin as he prepares for the upcoming Vendée Globe, with just under two months left before the event. Follow the race here.
