Craftinsure Osprey UK National Championship at Poole Yacht Club – Overall
The Craftinsure Osprey UK National Championship at Poole Yacht Club took place from 5-8 September 2024. A total of 45 boats were eager to race after the initial challenge of light winds on Friday. Despite a slow start on Saturday, the fleet eventually got underway with some exciting races.
The championship was dominated by Matt Rainback & Phil Angrave on ‘String Driven Thing’, who secured victory with four wins out of four races. They successfully defended their 2023 title and will be looking to make it a hat trick in 2025. The podium was completed by Ben McGrane & James Ross on ‘Beastly Whizzer’ in second place and Matt Burge & Vyv Townend on ‘Callisto’ in third.
Overall, it was a competitive event with some challenging conditions, but the sailors showcased their skills and determination. The Class Boat, ‘Six Pack’, a Hartley MkVI, was loaned to young sailors Joe Cross & Edward Gillespie, who put up a commendable performance finishing ninth overall.
The championship was supported by Craftinsure, Hartley Boats, Allen Brothers, Clamcleat, Fernhurst Books, Robline, and Seasure, with special thanks to Poole Yacht Club for hosting the event.
