Welcome to the coverage of Day 3 of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta. This event serves as a precursor to the Louis Vuitton Cup, set to begin on August 29th.

The central question today is whether the pattern of technology failures among the teams will continue. After two days of racing, a significant number of teams have encountered issues, with a third of the fleet experiencing some form of technology failure. Notably, Alinghi Red Bull Racing also suffered a broken mast earlier in the week. This indicates that nearly half of the participating teams have been affected in just a few days.

The current sailing conditions have been ideal for foiling monohulls, making these failures all the more surprising. There are rumors suggesting that some challengers may be hesitant to race against the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand.

The Predictwind America’s Cup Centre forecasts another excellent day for racing on the AC75s. On Saturday, August 24th, we can expect variable winds in the morning, transitioning to steady south winds blowing at 10-15 knots in the afternoon—perfect sailing weather. Temperatures will be warm and sunny.

Looking ahead to Sunday, August 25th, weather conditions will shift. Afternoon winds in the Mediterranean are expected to weaken, introducing light to moderate breezes from the East/South-East on the race course, along with a cooler, cloudier day.
