The 18ft Skiff Sixt Spring Championship & Club Championship continues on 27 October 2024. Last Sunday, the fleet faced challenging conditions on Sydney Harbour with a strong southerly wind. This upcoming Sunday, a more favorable 14 knots breeze from the north-east is expected.
The Race 1 winner, Rag & Famish Hotel, will have to overcome a handicap penalty in Race 2, giving other boats in the fleet a chance to compete. Each race winner is penalized, maintaining a level playing field for all boats. Despite the penalty system, teams like Lazarus, Vaikobi, Burrawang-Young Henrys, Balmain, Smeg, and The Kitchen Maker showed promise in Race 1.
Defending champion Sixt team, led by Jacob Maarks, will return to compete in Race 2. Spectators can witness the action on the water using MarkSetBot robotic sailing buoys for the first time in a 3-buoy race. The club’s spectator ferry will follow the race, and SailMedia will livestream the event for those unable to attend.
Excitement is building for the rest of the Spring Championship with unique racing conditions and strong competition. Don’t miss the thrilling races and competitive spirit of the 18ft Skiff class.
