Challenging and Fun Red Fox Regatta at Charlevoix Yacht Club

Treasured by sailors and their families, the two-day Red Fox Regatta hosted by Charlevoix Yacht Club is a thrilling event held over Labor Day weekend. The racing involves a challenge going east across the length of Lake Charlevoix to Boyne City. The evening features a club-hosted party at the Veterans Pavilion on the waterfront, complete with family-friendly activities such as the Rain Gutter Regatta.
The following Sunday includes the return race to the western end of Lake Charlevoix. The event concludes with an afternoon Awards Ceremony at the Charlevoix Yacht Club. This fun-filled regatta attracts participants from across the Great Lakes and serves as a grand finale to the summer racing season, particularly popular among J/sailors.
J/22 Class
In the five-boat fleet, Tom Barnes’s RECKLESS clinched the class win with a remarkable two first-place finishes, recording a total of 2 points. Following closely, Robert Camp’s SKADOOSH secured second place with two second-place finishes. Chris Shadek’s WINDY CITY rounded out the top three with two third-place finishes.
PHRF 5 Division
Among the six-boat fleet, Keith and Karen Attlee’s J/120 ROCKET SCIENCE took the division win with a score of 2-1 for a total of 3 points.
PHRF 6 Division
In the competitive half-dozen boat class, Chris Lamb’s J/111 PADAWAN 4 narrowly missed first place due to a tie-breaker, finishing with a score of 2-2 for 4 points. George Golder’s J/111 TERRIER secured fourth place with a score of 4-3 for 7 points, just one point shy of the podium.
