The RRD One Hour Wing, an event organized by Circolo Surf Torbole at Lake Garda, Italy, concluded with excellent wind conditions on Sunday, allowing all competitors to improve their performance and complete more laps in the allotted hour.
- Alessandro Josè Tomasi triumphed in the RRD One Hour Wing, completing 26 laps in 1 hour 4 minutes and 17 seconds.
- Michele Capitani emerged as the top finisher in the Under 20 category.
- The event was a resounding success, showcasing participants from various age groups—from children to grand masters.
Alessandro Josè Tomasi from Riva displayed exceptional skill, winning the overall ranking with 26 completed laps. His closest competitor, Michele Capitani from Rome, kept pace until the final laps but secured second place and the Under 20 title. Local racer Riccardo Zorzi took third place overall, also finishing as the second in the Under 20 category, followed closely by his brother Sebastiano.
In the one-design RRD category filled with young competitors, Filippo Dusatti achieved first place, followed by Valerio Ballardini and Pietro Zanoni. Among female participants, the top spot was claimed by Czech athlete Kritsyna Chalupnikova. The youngest participant, Liam Calò, who is only 11 years old, also received a special recognition.
The RRD One Hour Wing set a record this year with over 40 participants, reinforcing the excitement of the one-hour challenge format. This thrilling event began with all competitors lined up by a dinghy acting as a ‘rabbit,’ creating an atmosphere of speed and endurance as they raced across the course marked by buoys, navigating from one side of the lake to the other in a crosswind gait.
Circolo Surf Torbole expressed great satisfaction in witnessing such a vast turnout of children and youth—18 participants under the age of 20—along with numerous enthusiasts, including masters and grand masters. This reflects the growing accessibility of wingfoiling as a sport for all ages, despite its relatively recent emergence. The foil discipline, encompassing both windsurfing and wingfoil, has revitalized the sport, attracting many young people who engage in these activities both recreationally and competitively at national and international levels.
