Firefly Craftinsure Vines Series event at Papercourt sailing Club

Competitors at the 2024 Papercourt Open faced challenging conditions, with one sailor describing it as “the worst wind in 30 years of sailing here.” Despite this, nine Fireflys enjoyed a competitive four-race series, navigating varying wind conditions and tight course legs.

Barney Smith & Alannah Hebbert from Hamble River SC emerged victorious, showcasing impressive sailing skills and resilience. They were followed by Alex Baxter & Rachel Crebbin (OCSS & Chichester YC) in second place and home club hero Jason Aldous sailing with Jo Mason in third place.

The event received fantastic support from the RGS Guildford Firefly fleet, with school boat Josh Jacobs & Harry Grosvenor putting on a strong performance. The school kids got valuable experience and training in racing rules and tactics, preparing them for future regattas.

Papercourt sailing Club provided excellent hospitality, including bacon sandwiches, lunch, and tea and cake after racing. The event was well-organized, thanks to the efforts of the race officer and team. Craftinsure, the Vines Series sponsor, was acknowledged for their continued support.

Overall, the 2024 Papercourt Open was a challenging yet rewarding event, showcasing the competitive spirit and camaraderie of the Firefly sailing community.
