Passion for Sailing

Fraser’s love for sailing began in his childhood, inspired by captivating tales of his grandfather’s ocean crossings. He sailed various boats on inland waters and later competed in several dinghy classes at an international level. After school, he transitioned into a professional sailing career, delivering yachts across the South Atlantic and evolving his role to include motor yachts. His experiences span different waters, including the USA, Mediterranean, Caribbean, and UK, which has enriched his sailing expertise.

Lessons from Sailing

Through sailing, Fraser has learned essential life skills, including camaraderie, problem-solving in unpredictable situations, and a profound respect for the oceans. His professional journey has equipped him with both traditional and modern navigation techniques that will be advantageous during the race.

Why Single-Handed Sailing?

Fraser is drawn to single-handed sailing primarily due to the self-reliance it fosters and the unique challenges it presents. He relishes the peace and beauty of being alone at sea, embracing the forces of nature while navigating through joy and adversity.

Motivation for the Global Solo Challenge

The GSC represents an opportunity for Fraser to fulfill his lifelong ambition of sailing around the world in a structured environment, with the added security of having fellow sailors nearby. He is particularly impressed with the professionalism of the GSC organizers, which sets this event apart from others.

Preparation Plans

Fraser plans to attract sponsors to represent Zimbabwe in this significant sailing achievement. He is currently in search of the boat he will sail around the world, intending to prepare it with the support of his extensive network in the yachting industry. He aims to train extensively and log as many miles as possible before the race starts in 2027.

Biggest Challenges Ahead

One of Fraser’s main challenges will be ensuring he and his boat are adequately prepared for the race. During the competition, managing fatigue from lack of sleep while pushing the boat to perform will also test his limits, especially in navigating Cape Horn and the South Atlantic’s challenging weather systems.

Dream Boat

Fraser aspires to obtain an Open 40, 50, or potentially 60-foot yacht, with a preference for an Open 40 to effectively manage the boat’s complexity and ensure safety in rough conditions.

Social Cause Connection

Fraser highlighted his goal of promoting Zimbabwe and its people through this sailing endeavor, aiming to link his personal challenge to a larger social cause.

Additional Insights

Despite potentially being considered an underdog among competitors in terms of racing experience, Fraser compensates with his extensive sea experience, practical mindset, and profound appreciation for the unique challenges solo sailing entails.
