Gamecock emerged victorious at the 2024 IC37 North American Championship, showcasing impressive sailing skills in challenging conditions. Due to gale-force winds, the three-day regatta was condensed into four intense races over six hours. Gamecock’s skipper, Peter McClennen, led the team to victory with a strategic approach and impressive speed, securing a 7-point lead. New Wave and MO claimed second and third place, respectively.

The championship, held at the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court in Newport, R.I., featured 21 Corinthian teams competing on Narragansett Bay. The IC37 class, designed to promote amateur one-design competition, ensures fair play with strict rules. Sponsored by Helly Hansen, Peters & May, Safe Harbor Marinas, and Hammetts Hotel, the event showcased top-tier sailing talent and camaraderie within the class.

Despite shifting winds ranging from 15 to 25 knots, Gamecock maintained consistency and agility on the water. The team’s dedication to practicing in all conditions paid off, contributing to their success. The 2024 summer season culminated with Daniel Thielman’s team, Kuai, clinching the overall title, following a strong performance throughout the regatta calendar.
