With the Hamble Classics having commenced, showcasing the XOD fleet, now is the perfect time to delve into the video archives at YachtsandYachting.com to uncover the oldest X-One-Design videos available from the pre-digital era, primarily before the year 2000.

Our search reveals that the earliest footage we can locate is from the 1960s, all during Cowes Week. One wonders if there are no other recordings captured at different locations or times featuring XOD racing.

The Cowes Week 1960 video includes not only the XOD class but also features 12m, Dragon, Redwing, and Flying Fifteen classes.

In Cowes Week 1961, there is footage on board the 12 Metre ‘Sceptre’ and the royal Dragon, along with some XOD action.

The Cowes Week 1962 footage also showcases 12 Metres, so be sure to keep watching for XOD highlights.

Cowes Week 1967 focuses primarily on youth but still features some excellent shots of the XOD class.

The Cowes Week 1968 video has been specially edited by an enthusiast to highlight the XODs more prominently after the initial scene-setting.

What about other decades?

If you know of any other XOD videos from before or after the 60s, we would love to share them with fellow sailors. Submit your video links for immediate review.
