The Laser / ILCA Open at West Kirby sailing Club took place on 7 September 2024. Seven visitors and ten sailors from the host club participated in the event. The President, Mr. Peter Bramley, welcomed the visitors, and after a quick briefing from the race officer, the boats launched onto the River Dee.
Due to initially no wind, there was a delay in the start of the races, but once the breeze filled in, racing began swiftly. In Race 1, Ian Jones from Dovestone S.C. led the ILCA 7 race from start to finish, while Will Dyson & Gorden Riddell from Delph secured the top spots in the ILCA 6 race.
Race 2 saw Ian Jones continue his dominance in the ILCA 7 fleet, while Jacob Bennett claimed victory in the ILCA 6 fleet. Overall, Jacob Bennett secured the series win in the ILCA 6 fleet.
After the races, competitors and helpers enjoyed pasta, chicken bake, and refreshments. Prizes were presented by Gareth Owen, and thanks were extended to sponsors Holt, Deva, Brimstage Brewery, and 20 20 Engineering.
The event saw impressive performances from the participants, with Ian Jones, Will Dyson, Gordon Riddell, and Jacob Bennett standing out in their respective fleets.
