Gold Coast is gearing up to host the 2024 Asia Pacific Championships for the Hansa Class, set to take place from 21st to 25th October. With over 80 competitors from 7 countries, the regatta will feature para sailing races on the Broadwater to determine the champions.

The International Hansa Class Association will kick off the event on Sunday at the Southport Yacht Club, welcoming sailors to showcase their skills and passion for inclusive sailing. Competitors from Chile, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA will be vying for top honors in various classes.

Local legends like Chris Symons, Bob Shahinger, and Ross Manning will be among the contenders, with the Skud 18 Class promising some exciting competition. The event will also see the presence of Chris Mitchell, the designer of the Hansa boats.

The Southport Yacht Club Commodore Glenn Burrell expressed excitement about hosting the event, emphasizing the club’s commitment to inclusive sailing. The venue, Hollywell, offers unique facilities with easy access to the water, thanks to the support from Marine Structures.

The Asia Pacific 2024 Hansa Class Championships will feature classes like Hansa 2.3, 303 singles and doubles, Liberty, and SKUD18. The event is set to be a thrilling display of sailing excellence and inclusivity, with the opening ceremony scheduled for this Sunday.
