The Irish RS Southern Championship took place at Killaloe Sailing Club on 7-8 September 2024. Twenty-one boats from various clubs participated in the event, including competitors from Galway, Cullaun, Antrim, Cultra, Whitehead, Strangford Lough, and Blessington.
The first day of racing had light winds, causing some delays, but eventually, three races were completed. The second day saw better wind conditions, allowing for four races to be sailed. Robert Hastings and Josh Porter emerged as the winners in the RS400 class, while Cora McNaughton and Eilish Last claimed victory in the RS200 class.
Overall, it was a successful event, with close competition and challenging conditions. The next events on the RS calendar include the ISA Champions Cup, Transition Day for Laser and Topper squads, and the Blessington Lakes Sailing Club Autumn Series. The RS400 UK Nationals and RS400 Irish Nationals will be held in 2025 at RNIYC, promising exciting racing for participants.
