Italy’s Alessandro Marega emerged as the winner of the Finn European Championship held at Yacht Club de Cannes. The final day of racing saw dramatic turnarounds, with Valerian Lebrun of France finishing in second place and also clinching the European Masters title. Hungary’s Kristof Kaiser secured the bronze medal. The Gold Fleet races were won by Lebrun and Australia‘s Paul McKenzie.
The weather conditions forced the silver fleet races to be abandoned, with only the two gold fleet races being completed. Lebrun won the first race, setting up a final showdown in the second race of the day. Marega managed to secure a second-place finish in the final race, which was enough for him to claim the European Championship title.
In his victory speech, Marega expressed his happiness and highlighted the hard work and sacrifices that led to his success. Lebrun also shared his thoughts on the challenging conditions faced throughout the championship. Kaiser, on the other hand, was surprised by his third-place finish, considering the tricky wind conditions on the final day.
The next major Finn event, the 2025 Open Finn Europeans, is scheduled to take place in Naples, Italy. Overall results of the championship were as follows: Alessandro Marega (ITA) in first place, Valerian Lebrun (FRA) in second, and Kristof Kaiser (HUN) in third.
In the Masters category, Lebrun emerged as the winner, while Paul McKenzie (AUS) claimed the Grand Master title. The top three positions in the Great Grand Masters, Legends, U23, and Senior categories were also decided at the championship.
