Canada Ocean Racing’s Be Water Positive sailing Team has launched its inaugural Pathway Program, aimed at supporting the next generation of offshore Canadian sailors. The program took place on Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada, from September 27-29, 2024, bringing together four young sailors under the mentorship of experienced professionals.
Scott Shawyer, president/skipper of Canada Ocean Racing, is currently training for the Vendee Globe race in 2028. The Pathway Program aims to build support for offshore sailing in Canada, particularly among young sailors, by sharing knowledge and experiences from the IMOCA Globe Series.
Designed for individuals aged 18-25 interested in sailing or pursuing a career in the sport, the Pathway Program offers participants training and development opportunities under the guidance of mentors. The program, hosted at Collingwood Yacht Club in Ontario, utilizes a Farr-designed X2 yacht for training while the team’s primary assets remain in France.
The success of the program was made possible by generous support from partners like H2O Innovation, The International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA), Mustang Survival, Exposure Marine, and de Mamiel. The next round of candidate selections is scheduled for April-May 2025.
