Welcome to the coverage of Day 1 of the Louis Vuitton Cup in Barcelona. Four races are scheduled, featuring six competing teams, with two teams set to sail twice.

Today’s conditions are expected to feature winds of 7-9 knots and a flat sea. The race course is oriented eastward, starting off PortVell, and consists of three laps (six legs) with each leg approximately 1.5 nautical miles long. The estimated race time is about 18-22 minutes.

Racing is set to begin at approximately 1400 CET (1200 UTC).

Series Format:

The competition consists of two phases of Round Robin racing, with a total of four scheduled races and six competing teams. The day’s pairings can be referenced in the graphic below.

Forecast for Race Day 1: For this Thursday, August 29th, early afternoon winds from the East are expected to reach 7-9 knots across the race course. As the afternoon progresses, the wind will likely shift to a Southeast direction with little change in strength. The sea state should remain calm, with waves about 0.5 meters high coming from the East at a 3-second interval. Expect partly cloudy skies with temperatures around 26°C over the water and 29°C over land.

For tomorrow, Friday the 30th, similar conditions are anticipated, with light winds from the East/Southeast at around 5 to 10 knots, calm seas, and a cloudy sky.
