The GP14 Masters Championship took place at Welsh Harp sailing Club on 5th & 6th October 2024, bringing together 19 competitive boats in challenging conditions. Competitors faced a difficult southerly breeze with unpredictable shifts, making for exciting racing across 4 races.
Son and father duo Matt & Tim McGovern showcased their skills by winning three out of four races, while Jasper & Fergus Barnham secured second place with two seconds and a first. Local pairings like Maurice Cleal / Romek Kowalewski and Steve Cooper / Liz Guest also performed well with consistent finishes.
The event was not just about racing, as sailors and supporters enjoyed a delicious dinner and ceilidh to celebrate the day’s activities. Welsh Harp sailing Club expressed gratitude to the GP14 association for the opportunity to host the championship and thanked other clubs for their support.
Overall results saw Matt and Tim McGovern clinching the top spot, followed by Jasper and Fergus Barnham in second place. The event was a success, fostering camaraderie and friendship within the sailing community at Welsh Harp sailing Club.
