Merlin Rocket DeMay and Thames Series at Hampton sailing Club

Hampton sailing Club recently hosted its annual open meeting for the Merlin Rocket Class on Saturday 13th October. Due to challenging conditions, both the Vintage De May series race and the Thames Series race were held on the same day. Despite the lack of eligible boats for the Thames Series, 11 boats competed in total.

The first race saw Hywel Bowen-Perkins and Deirdre Bell take the lead, closely followed by John and Livvy Bell in second place. Rob and Hattie Cage managed to secure third place after a comeback from fifth position.

In the second race, Rob and Hattie maintained their lead to finish first, with John and Livvy Bell coming in second, and Stuart Jenkins and Imogen Jenkins securing third place.

The third race presented more wind challenges, with Ollie and Egle leading initially before being overtaken by Rob and Hattie, who clinched another victory. John and Livvy Bell finished third after a remarkable comeback.

The day concluded with prize-giving and recognition for the top performers. Craftinsure generously sponsored the event, providing excellent prizes for the winners.

The next and final event for the Thames and Vintage series in 2024 will take place on the 20th October at Ranelagh sailing Club for the Downriver Race.
