Metung sailor Alexander Milledge is honored with a national trophy attribution by the International Etchells Class Association of Australia (IECAA) in time for the 2025 Australian Etchells Championship regatta. The regatta will take place in Metung, Victoria from November 1-5, 2024.

The Corinthian trophy has been renamed the Alexander Milledge Etchells Corinthian Trophy to recognize Milledge’s significant contributions to the Etchells class. Metung has historical ties to Milledge as it was home to one of the first Etchells yachts he owned, Brown Sugar.

Milledge played a pivotal role in the formation of the E22 Class Association of Australia and was instrumental in importing Skip Etchells’ moulds to Australia. Today, Etchells sail in fleets across Australia and worldwide.

The renaming of the Corinthian trophy was initiated by Metung Yacht Club and received unanimous support from Etchells fleet captains in Australia. The trophy will be presented at the end of the 2025 Australian Etchells Championship regatta to the yacht, skipper, and crew in the World sailing Classification Category 1. Attendees at the regatta will include Milledge’s widow, Sue, their family, and sailing companions.

Metung Yacht Club has a history of hosting prestigious sailing events and will continue this tradition with the upcoming Australian Etchells Championship. Entries for the regatta are still being accepted, and more information can be found on the Metung Yacht Club website.

The legacy of Alexander Milledge lives on in the Etchells class, and his contributions to the sport will be celebrated at the 2025 Australian Etchells Championship in Metung.
