Morgan Connor Secures Victory in 2024 Sonar World Championship with Inter-Generational Crew

Morgan Connor emerged victorious at the 2024 Sonar World Championship held at Noroton Yacht Club, Darien, CT, from September 12-15 on the Long Island Sound. A total of thirty-one boats from the USA, Canada, and Ireland competed in the event. The championship saw challenging light conditions in the first three days, but on the final day, a 10-12 knot easterly breeze provided an exciting finale with four races.

Local sailor Morgan Connor, along with his multi-generational crew, clinched the championship with consistent performances throughout. His team’s victory was highlighted by their ability to navigate the tricky conditions and secure a 6-point lead over the competition. Notably, Connor’s crew included his 16-year-old son and an 81-year-old sailor, making it a unique and memorable win.

The event received praise for its organization and hospitality, with plans already in place for the 2026 Sonar Class World Championship in Lunenberg, Nova Scotia, Canada. Additionally, the Saturday dinner featured a special presentation to Gene Henkel for his contributions to the Sonar Class and Paralympic sailing.
