Upcoming is the highly anticipated 2024 Noble Marine RS600 National Championship, taking place along the beautiful East Sussex coast, known for its challenging sea conditions. This year’s event will feature an impressive lineup of competitors, including five former national champions.
Will Russell – Mr 360 camera
Will Russell, well-known for his impressive social media footage of racing, returns with a stunning blue boat. This year, he has dedicated considerable time not only to racing but also to editing engaging videos, making him a competitor to watch during the championship.
Richard ‘Turkey Pie’ Smith
A former National Champion, Richard spends a significant amount of time racing his Musto skiff. With a great performance at this year’s Eurocup, Richard is known for his excellent starts and impressive boat speed.
Mike Iszatt – Mr Silverhook
Mike will debut his new boat at Eastbourne this year, generating excitement and speculation about its fresh color scheme. Known for his preference for lighter breezes, he consistently performs well, frequently finishing near the front of the fleet.
Ian Marshall – AKA Spidey
Another former Nationals winner, Ian has spent his year racing classic moths, which may give him a competitive edge. With his wide-winged designs, he excels in light to moderate winds and could very well surprise his competitors.
Andrew Peake
Andrew used his participation in the early Nationals races at Stone in 2019 as a crucial precursor to winning the event. While he may be less experienced this year in the RS600, he remains a strong contender often found at the leading edge of the fleet.
Jamie Mawson
A consistent former champion, Jamie is known for his speed in various conditions. His recent foray into Aero sailing at the worlds has likely sharpened his racing skills, making him a formidable opponent in this championship.
Richard Bone
Hailing from Bough Beech, Richard’s first season has faced challenges due to injuries and commitments. However, his extensive trapeze experience from years in 49ers and 14s and his occasional bursts of good boat speed make him another key athlete to watch.
George Smith
As the current National Champion, George is eager to defend his title with a new boat, which has already proven to be fast since its debut at last year’s championships. However, he admits to feeling a bit rusty after spending much of his summer on home improvement projects.
In addition to these standout sailors, many others will be competing, ranging from seasoned veterans to newcomers taking their first steps in RS600 championship sailing. With a strong mix of former champions and talented sailors, this year’s competition promises to be one of the closest yet.
Fans can expect the traditional division of Gold, Silver, and Bronze fleets, along with the fiercely contested Masters trophy. Additionally, participants can look forward to fantastic prizes from sponsors. The welcoming atmosphere of Eastbourne Sovereign Sailing Club awaits all sailors. What remains to be seen is the weather!
