The Hamble Winter Series 2024 Race Week 1, sponsored by One Sails, kicked off with two contrasting days of weather. Saturday saw sunshine and a steady breeze, while Sunday was grey and damp. Despite the weather, a good number of boats participated in the races.

In the J70 class, Alex Smallwood in RTYC2 dominated day one with two first places. In the SB20 class, Tan Gwyllt maintained a strong lead throughout the races. In the IRC fleet, Banter secured wins in both races in IRC 3.

On day two, some front-runners from day one struggled, leading to unexpected outcomes in various classes. Patrick Liardet in Cosmic came from behind to win the J70 class, while Journeymaker 11 claimed victory in the J111 class.

The IRC fleet completed windward/leeward and round the cans races, with Banter and other boats securing wins in their respective classes. The day was filled with tactics and challenges due to shifting winds and tidal conditions.

The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony where One Sails presented useful sailing accessories. Looking ahead, the Hamble IRC Autumn Championships, sponsored by Key yachting, is set to begin with exciting competition expected.
